tolingo legal. at a glance
Legal translation for law firms, and nobody else.
tolingo legal. works for law firms, lawyers and auditors. Everything is built around how a firm actually runs: live matters, court deadlines, legal professional privilege and the requirement that a translation holds up in court.
Every job goes to a sworn specialist translator who knows the area of law. On request we deliver a certified translation with stamp and signature, ready to file with a court or a public authority. For use abroad we arrange legalisation or notarisation.
The documents we translate for law firms.
From a statement of claim to a full due diligence file. Each document type goes to translators with the matching legal specialism.
Claim forms, pleadings and litigation documents, translated so that the legal argument and the citation style survive intact. Certified on request for filing with the court.
Indictments, investigation files, judgments and transcripts, handled by translators who specialise in criminal law and under strict protection of personal data.
Contract documentation and transaction papers, translated to fit the terminology of both legal systems. More under contract translation, including patent documentation.
For large volumes we open up data rooms quickly and in confidence. How that works without losing quality is set out below.
Due diligence at speed, in confidence.
A due diligence review ahead of an acquisition or an investment often means working through thousands of pages of foreign-language material in a very short time. Human translation alone is too slow at that volume. Machine translation alone comes back unchecked, so it will not hold up. We run both: machine pre-translation for the speed, legal post-editing to ISO 18587 for the reliability. For pleadings, contracts and anything heading for a courtroom, human specialist translation remains the standard.
An AI tool translates in seconds, but nobody reviews the result.

How a translation is built to hold up in court.
How many specialists your translation passes through depends on the service package you choose. As standard, a sworn specialist translator does the work. For documents where every phrase counts, a second specialist can be added under the four-eyes principle to ISO 17100. You set the level of review to match the document.
Translates your document with knowledge of the area of law and of the terminology in both legal systems.
Under the four-eyes principle, a second specialist checks the translation against the original. Recommended for pleadings, contracts and anything heading for a courtroom.
A reviewed resultCertified on request and ready to file, with a quality certificate as a PDF. An extra linguistic check is available through our editing and proofreading service.
Please note: a translation is not legal advice. Our specialist translations are terminologically correct and, where selected, checked under the four-eyes principle to ISO 17100. The legal review and any adaptation to the target jurisdiction stay with the instructed lawyers.
The tolingo quality certificate.
For every translation we document the quality process that was applied, in a certificate tied to that project. It records which standards were used: ISO-compliant processes, qualified specialist translators and, where selected, the check by a second linguist.
You get the certificate as a PDF. It gives you something traceable to point to for internal quality and compliance requirements, whether in an audit or towards your client.

When the deadline is tight.
Court deadlines do not move. Urgent jobs are flagged as express or super express and prioritised straight away. The four-eyes principle stays available on request, even under time pressure.
Prioritised handling, with a binding delivery date in the quote. Super express is faster again, on request.
When a deadline is genuinely tight we start straight away, overnight or at the weekend if that is what it takes.
A translator network spread over several time zones speeds up the work without lowering the quality. Details on the express translation page.
Privilege, protected by the process.
For a law firm, confidentiality is a professional duty. Which is why every case file follows clear security rules, from the first upload through to delivery.
Signed before the first file is sent, if you want one, and passed on as binding to the specialist translator doing the work.
Files travel over SSL, with no detour through unsecured channels. Secure file transfer on request.
Processing on European servers only, to ISO 27001, GDPR compliant and audited regularly.
Case files are seen only by specialist translators bound to confidentiality. For particularly sensitive files, a project room with restricted access on request.
Every language a cross-border case runs in.
For international proceedings we work with native-speaker specialist translators who are at home in the relevant legal system. Where a case runs in several languages, our project managers coordinate the parallel work, and central terminology management keeps the legal terms consistent.

Confidentiality, certification, deadlines and languages.
How does tolingo protect legal professional privilege?
tolingo is certified to ISO 27001. Documents are transferred in encrypted form and processed on European servers. On request we sign a confidentiality agreement before the first file is sent, and pass it on as binding to the specialist translator doing the work. Case files are handled only by authorised translators who are bound to confidentiality.
Are the translations accepted in court?
For official and court purposes, sworn specialist translators produce certified translations with stamp and signature. These are accepted by German courts and public authorities. On request we arrange additional attestations, such as notarisation for use abroad. Delivery is as a PDF, with a printed copy by post if you need one.
Does every translation go through two specialists?
Not automatically. As standard, a sworn specialist translator does the work. The four-eyes principle to ISO 17100, where a second specialist checks the translation, belongs to our higher service packages and can be added for a specific job. You set the level of review to match the document, and we recommend it for anything heading for a courtroom.
How fast can an urgent translation be ready?
Under deadline pressure we flag your job as express or super express and prioritise it straight away, overnight where necessary. We confirm a realistic delivery date in the quote. More on the express translation page.
Do you translate large data rooms for due diligence?
Yes. For large volumes we combine machine translation with legal post-editing to ISO 18587, so that a data room can be opened up quickly and in confidence. A legal specialist carries out the review.
Which languages do you translate legal documents into?
We cover more than 220 languages and variants, with native-speaker specialist translators in the relevant legal system. Where a case runs in several languages, our project managers coordinate the parallel work and keep the terminology consistent.
