American English and British English are the two most important variants of the English language. And even though they look similar at first sight (and sound similar), there are differences in pronunciation, spelling, grammar and vocabulary. Errors often occur in the spellings in translations: in American English, for example, the word “color” is written without a “u”, while in British English the correct spelling is “colour”. And an American who asks for a “biscuit” in the UK will be surprised to get what they would call a “cookie” rather than a bread roll.
