Why Czech matters so much to German companies
Closely linked, industry-heavy and right next door
After Poland, the Czech Republic is Germany’s most important trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe. Around a third of Czech exports go to Germany. German groups such as Continental, Bosch, ZF Friedrichshafen, Siemens, Mercedes-Benz and the Volkswagen Group (with Škoda as a core brand) run plants, research centres and logistics sites in the Czech Republic. In return, Germany is the main buyer of Czech industrial products.
Czech is a West Slavic language with around 10.5 million speakers, closely related to Slovak. It has its own diacritics (háček and čárka), 7 grammatical cases and a complex verb system with aspects. Professional specialist translation to ISO 17100 by native speakers from the Czech Republic is the standard here.
Specialist fields for Czech translation
The six areas German companies ask about most
The Czech Republic is a production and supplier location for many German industries. At tolingo, every Czech project goes to a specialist translator with the right background, supported by client-specific termbases.
Škoda, Continental, Bosch, ZF and many tier-2 suppliers have plants in the Czech Republic. We translate workshop manuals, training material, quality documentation and audit reports.
Operating manuals, safety data sheets and technical specifications for Czech plants and suppliers. Including CE documentation for the EU market.
Prague and Brno are established tech hubs, home to companies such as JetBrains and Avast. We localise user interfaces, onboarding copy and help articles into cs-CZ.
Supplier contracts, shareholder resolutions, privacy policies under the GDPR and the Czech implementing act, and commercial register extracts. Sworn translators where required.
Employment contracts, onboarding material and safety briefings for Czech-speaking staff. Especially relevant in the German-Czech border regions of Bavaria and Saxony.
Product descriptions, online shop content and terms and conditions for the Czech market. With háček and čárka displayed correctly in UTF-8.
What does a Czech translation cost?
Clear per-word prices you can plan with
The price of a Czech translation depends on the type of text, the quality level and the deadline. Translators for German ↔ Czech are readily available, and prices are stable. For recurring content, translation memory matches cut costs by up to 70%.

What goes wrong with AI translation and non-native translators
| Pitfall | Problem | How tolingo solves it |
|---|---|---|
| Diacritics č, š, ž, ř, á, í, ů | Faulty encoding turns háčeks into apostrophes or drops them entirely. Without diacritics, a text becomes hard for Czech readers to follow, or its meaning changes. The ř is a particular risk: it is found almost only in Czech and is missing from some fonts. | UTF-8 throughout, a pre-flight check before delivery and, where needed, layout adaptation with font embedding. |
| Seven cases | Czech has 7 grammatical cases, and proper names, company names and brand names are inflected. AI tools often produce the wrong endings or skip inflection altogether, which makes the text sound stilted. | Native-speaker translators with a feel for inflecting brand names, and a client-specific termbase. |
| Confusion with Slovak | Czech and Slovak are very similar, and Czechs and Slovaks understand each other without translation. Even so, they are two separate languages with different vocabularies and diacritics. A Czech translation does not replace a Slovak one. | A clearly assigned language for every project (cs-CZ or sk-SK) and separate translator pools. |
| Verb aspect | Czech distinguishes between perfective and imperfective aspect. The choice depends on context and is critical in marketing and legal texts. AI often picks the wrong aspect, which makes statements vague or wrong. | Specialist translators with a feel for the language, and the four-eyes principle for specialist translation to ISO 17100. |
| Formal or informal address | Czech clearly distinguishes formal and informal address (vy and ty). Marketing in the Czech Republic often uses the informal form, business letters the formal one. AI tends to use one form throughout, which can feel out of place. | The form of address is agreed for each project, and translators have experience with the tone required. |
Certified Czech ↔ German translations
Accepted by authorities, registry offices and courts
For use in Germany, certified Czech translations are produced under Section 142 of the German Code of Civil Procedure (ZPO) by publicly appointed and sworn translators. The Czech equivalent is the “soudní překladatel” (court translator). As the Czech Republic is an EU member state, EU Regulation 2016/1191 has applied since 2019. It removes the need for an apostille for many public documents, and with a multilingual standard form, often the need for a translation as well. For national documents, however, a certified translation remains the norm.
Unlike many other languages, certified Czech translations are not ordered through a fixed-price shop. They are handled through our brand Embassy Translations as an individual quote. You upload your document, tell us what it is for (registry office, notary, court, commercial register) and get a specific quote with price and delivery time. We reply within ~10 minutes (within business hours). The certification is carried out by Czech translators publicly appointed and sworn in Germany.
Please note: tolingo delivers linguistically precise translations and coordinates the certification. Our translations are not a substitute for legal advice in the target market. For the legal interpretation of a document in the Czech Republic or Germany, please consult a law firm.
